International City Color Network
Rubí wanted to see the project Vigo Cidade de Cor (Vigo City of Color) first-hand, which has promoted the transformation of public spaces in this Galician municipality with artistic actions created on dividing walls. At present, there are over 50 urban artworks infusing the city with color.
Vigo’s experience encouraged Rubí to propose the creation of an International City Color Network, headed by this Galician city, which will be open to all the municipalities that stand out for their social, cultural, industrial and networking color, via competitive cooperation and knowledge exchanges on a wide range of subjects. The proposal was nourished by Rubí’s accrued experience with the Street Art project, promoted in the previous term by the Youth and Cultural Services via the Youth Recreation and Culture Round Table. The objective of this initiative is to change the town’s appearance through high-quality artistic interventions, providing the artists with a large number of walls that are municipally and/or privately owned to create their projects. In the framework of Street Art, four editions of the Full Colors festival have already been held, and murals have been encouraged in other parts of the town, like in the neighbourhood Vint-i-cinc de Setembre.
However, Rubí’s relationship with street art dates back much longer. Proof of this are the six editions of the urban graffiti and culture festival, Mixing Colors, which started in 2006 at the hands of the Youth councillor and the complicity and collaboration of the association Petados Crew. The outcome of this initiative, which was organised for the last time in 2010 with over 100 artists from around Catalonia taking part, can still be admired in different works on the walls of C-1413.
